Scenic 395 - The Official Guide 2019/2020

T he mountains and high deserts all along scenic US Highway 395 are criss- crossed by a network of officially designated roads and trails for use by off-highway vehicles, or OHVs. Many lead to remote campsites, historic abandoned mines, popular hiking trails, and other marvels of the California backcountry. Recreation enthu- siasts and their families from around the world enjoy these roads and trails year-round with their Jeeps, trucks, motorcycles, quads, UTVs, and snowmobiles. There also exist other roads and trails that are closed to mo- torized use, and it is your re- sponsibility to know which are open and closed. Finding your- self on a closed road can earn you a court fine, and even result in your vehicle being impound- ed. How can you be sure to stay on the right trail? The answer is easy – download the free Owl- sheadGPS mobile OHV map app to your smart phone. The OwlsheadGPS OHV map app brings over 57,000 miles of backcountry roads and trails to the palm of your hand. Covering the entire state of California, this is by far the most compre- hensive depiction of legal, desig- nated OHV roads and trails you can get. Routes are color coded for vehicle type, and you can view layers showing military, wilderness, national park and OHV area lands. You can also record and view your favorite rides, drop waypoints, and flag your favorite trails. Most impor- tantly, the OwlsheadGPS OHV map app lets you download and store routes and maps so you can stay on the trail even where there is no cellular or Wi-Fi con- nection. The OwlsheadGPS OHV map app is produced by Friends of Jawbone, who also operate the BLM Jawbone Station Visitor Center located along Highway 14 north of Mojave in Eastern Kern County. Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, including holidays, the Visitor Center fea- tures a Gift Shop with specially selected items including hard- to-find outdoor travel and na- ture guides, trail maps, Western history books, and children’s books. 2019-2020 Scenic 395 9 California City and Jawbone Pool Free (WiFi) Fitness Center Free Parking Breakfast included 10386 California City Blvd, California City, CA 93505 1-844-394-8718 www.bestwestern.com ! !
