Scenic 395 - The Official Guide 2018/2019

2018-2019 Scenic 395 7 Boron and Kramer Junction T hough it appears to be just another remote mining community in the High Desert between North Los Ange- les County and the High Sierras, Boron is a town of surprises hid- den behind the doors of muse- ums, satisfying eateries, and “mom and pop” businesses. In an effort to revitalize the local econ- omy and enhance the quality of life for its citizens, the Boron Chamber of Commerce allied it- self with local industry and pub- lic agencies to lead the effort to reveal Boron’s local treasures with a general plan of improve- ment. Like every other small commu- nity in the nation, times are a bit tough. However, the Boron com- munity has rallied to make changes with a lot of old fash- ioned volunteer hard work. Each year, Boron celebrates this hard- ened miner spirit, with the Twen- ty Mule Team Day celebration held the first Saturday in Octo- ber. All Twenty Mule Team Days guests are encouraged to take a short trip to the Rio Tinto Opera- tions site to see the Borax Visitors Center, where displays of miner- als, geological facts, and mining equipment are on display. Make sure to plan a visit to Boron October 6 for the Twenty Mule Team Day Anniversary cele- brations.
